Daroghah or Daroga?

Some listeners to recent episodes of Shattered may be familiar with the Hindi term, “Daroga.” It’s a term usually applied to a police officer in charge of a thana (police station). It’s still used in some Indian states to mean a station house officer, a S.H.O. for short. The term comes from the Persian “Daroghah,” which has a similar meaning, chief of police.
